"Was good value for money but cleanliness is an issue you need to address. Leisure facilities weregood - nice warm pool and good management in this area."

Good location and leisure facilities were very good.

Being initially shown to a room that had not been made up as was another guiest checking inis not a good sign. Possibly communication problems or just not enough claning staff?. Dirty breakfast tray was left in corridoor for about seven hours.

I would vet the taxi companies you use. The one you got us took us the long way to our destination and we paid at least £5 too much

"Would stay here again, as long as the Food Company shop was still open for breakfast!!!"

The breakfast in the hotel was expensive. However, just up the road was the Food Company shop, and the breakfast was excellent. Best I have had for sometime!! The Spa was good, so would stay here again. Hotel very clean.

Breakfast too expensive, staff could have been more welcoming and maybe a bit more helpful.

"It was adequate for an overnight stay but the price of the food, especially breakfast, was exaggerated."

Nice decor. Good food. Comfortable room. Fantastic waiter. Very near to Colchester Zoo.

We would have had to pay £30 for breakfast for two people. Food was expensive. Window in our room didn't close properly, could hear traffic noise from A12 quite well.

"The hotel is just of average standard, but it is Ok considering the rate"

    reasonable rate

the room is a bit small. Cleanliness needs improvement. We found a small cockraoch running out from the pillow.

"It was fine - nothing special, it provided a place to stay but not much more. Things like having to go from the bar to reception to be able to pay on a credit card just made it a bit tiresome. "

    The shortbread.

The room was just a bit old and in need of refurbishment. The shower curtain desperately needed washing the smell was horrid.

    "satisfactory"

It would be niice if you had air conditioning and a small guest laundry facility we could not find a laundry facility any where. we were over seas travlers

"The hotel looked as though the standards would be excellent. However, for the cost I was very disappointed in the service provided in the restaurant and felt that the staff could have been more apologetic towards the poor service at breakfast."

    Room was comfortable

Room was noisy and getting served at breakfast time was a nightmare. I was late for work due to waiting for tea and toast.

"Not at all happy with the reception as the room we had made with an advance booking was not the one we were offered. I politely persisted with an effort to get the room we had booked and suddenly one became available as if by magic. I complained about this the following morning and was told that I had been given the one which the duty manager had allocated for herself!!! I always thought that the customer should come before the staff but not apparently at this hotel! Overall howevwer the hotel, which I have visited several times is OK and good value. "

A reasonably modern hotel with good facilities. Very good position.

See above which could be a 'one off' experience.

"Over a week, business, everything was excellent"

The rooms were clean and the staff was excellent. Very helpful and positive. The food in the dining room was some of the best I have eaten, outstanding. I used the gym every day and it too was clean, and very well kept. A wonderful selection of equipment to use.

I would liked to have air conditioning in my room as most of the time it was warm

This was a very nicely appointed hotel with good facilities

The television in the room had virtually no reception, despite being of a modern standard.

"Got the impression that this hotel was for older people and we were the only young couple that weekend. However there were nice restaurants nearby and we had a relaxing weekend."

Tennis courts were empty and could stay on for as long as we wanted to.

Beautician was not there for treatments

"Staff could do more, epecailly at reception to asist you. "

Breakfast was good although not priced as indicated.

On check in I asked if we could have a double rather than a twin room as booked. I was advised there was no doubles available but we had one large single bed and an ordinary sized single bed. In fact we had the ‘disabled room’ not mentioned so no bath, and mismatched bedding which didn't fit and horrendous carpet. Queried whether the hotel was full when checking out and was advised that 3 rooms were available but surely we liked our walk-in shower – I have to say this was more like a hospital shower room. Disappointed as we were the couple who made the booking yet my friend travelling with us had a much nicer room to herself even though we were the lead on the booking. TV reception very poor. We were also overcharged for breakfast £13.50 and not £11.95. Rooms could benefit from some extra blinds rather than just heavy curtains as there is nothing to provide privacy during the day.

"Had a wonderful time and are planning to return for a longer break."

Extremely comfortable accommodation and impecable service. Staff were very attentive, low key, easily accommodated our family of 4 and put up two extra folding beds at no additional charge. The swimming pool was a great place to entertain small children. The restaurant and bar were very attractive, the food very good and the service outstanding. Excellent value for money.

"Have stayed in BW before, many years ago and will certainly stay again. Have joined the club and hope to book somewhere in the NW soon."

Super staff and good quality accomodation. Great to have the leisure facilities included. Food was fine.

The pool is too warm for serious swimmers! But if that is the only problem it must have been a very good experienc!!

"Overall my stay was very comfortable."

All Staff very friendly and courteous at all times. First room very good, clean, everything working, not too near main road. Beds very comortable. Nice to have chairs and table to sit at.

Second room TV not working, extra tv on dressing table also not working. Changed rooms. New room not entirely clean, bath did not run away properly, bed not made properly. Quite close to A12 therefore some traffic noise through the night

    "Overall good"

Nice room. J was very good and friendly on checking in. Excellent leisure centre and tennis courts though didn't have time to use them this time. Good location near A12 and nice view from room.

Bathroom floor and surfaces had not been cleaned. Breakfast staff too busy to be attentive eg no offer of coffee refill and dishes not cleared. Check out staff didn't enquire if we had our enjoyed our stay and didn't smile

Convenient location, nice layout, nice room, good facilities, clean and modern common areas, easy to book.

Room smelt slightly of smoke though was non-smoking, slow to check out, staff tried to charge for breakfastwhen I'd not had any.

"I have stayed here three times now, and will return, as it meets my travel requirements when in Essex."

Staff very helpful and leisure club good.

They charge you for breakfast even on a room-only basis, which is not good practice, so if you are room-only check your bill.

    Pleasant public rooms

No supervision at breakfast. Room not serviced - bed unmade, dirty towels left in bath, room not cleaned.

Room service expensive, not the food, but the surcharge.

  • 90% Individual Visitor

Excellent hotel overall. Very Efficient and polite staff especially in the the bar. Clean and well equiped rooms.

Perhaps some consideration could be given to single travellers using double/twin rooms in respect of the room cost.

The quality of both the rooms and leisure complex was very good. All staff were both professional and friendly

Evening room service menu could have been expanded although the quality of the food/cooking was very good. The digital signals on the LCD TV's in the executive rooms kept dropping out, so there is a need to improve aerial reception/signal strength and channels were all mixed up.

"A very good hotel, at a very reasonable price."

A very good hotel, well run and convenient as a stop over.

Reception staff a little 'short' in attitude and seemed stressed! At breakfast some of the 'waiters' were rather unskilled and need a quiet word to tell them that the customer is there to be looked after. Some were obviously of the opinion that the customer was a nuisance giving them tables to clear etc.

"I had no surprises - the details on the web site were very good.I found the staff very professional and friendly. I was surprised that there was no lift to the Executive rooms - even when I am fit I like a lift - on this occasion I had sprained my foot and had to climb the stairs. The staff helped in that they carried my luggage both up and down the stairs."

The bed - it was SO comfortable

No voile curtains at the window - it was like being in a fishbowl
