"Very pleasantly surprised. Thank you"
Great value for money- compares favorably with the nearby Hilton.
No bad points- buut the bar tender did not know how to make a rum and black he added water to the cordial. Suggestion would be to use neat black currant squash of a good standard i.e high fruit content. Little things like this do count shows you are willing not to cut corners- i.e using weak cordial.

"Pleasant. Good meal with excellent service. Ideal for centre of city. "
Very helpful French male receptionist we spoke to early evening.
Very strange English female at booking in. She forgot to book us a table in the restaurant. She also offered us a twin room. When we eventually got to our room ,it was a double with a sofa bed. We wanted to use swimming pool but it was completely overlooked by restaurant and reception area. Toilet was separate to bathroom. Room seen better days.

"Would stay again at a Novotel hotel, especially if they are all staffed and equipped like the York hotel. "
Staff were great. Helpful, approachable, good sense of humour. Even though English was their second language they 'got' our jokes. It was fantastic that there were games in the lobby. We could have a drink to unwind after the epic journey and our nine year old son was in eyesight, happily playing on a computer game, making friends.
None really. Would have been great if it had been slightly cheaper.

"most enjoyable"
staff very helpful especially the young lady behind the bar who recommended a nearby restaurant and followed it up by asking us had we enjoyed it the day after most impressive attention

"The quality of this hotel, whilst clean and adequate for a one night stopover, is massively over-played on the website. Not bad enough to submit a formal complaint, but highly disappointing overall."
availability of secure parking, view from the bar, carpet in reception
disinterested reception staff, no radio, no tissues or cotton wool, door lock erratic, truly hopeless breakfast no fresh fruit, no soy milk, no interesting bread/rolls/croissants only toast, stain on bedcover of single bed looked like blood 2/3 of the way down the bed...

"Staff very helpful, hotel very clean, Breakfast was excellent, overall very nice stay."
see general reveiw
why should we have to pay to park a car when staying at the hotel? Also our room was at the front of the hotel , so we had traffic noise & we must have been right above the outside smoking area where we could hear & smell the smokers & their conversations. it was very hot so we did have the window open to max

"A great long weekend and we will visit the hotel again in the future. "

"We have stayed in this hotel before and enjoyed our stay just as much this time."
Very handy location and the hotel had a relaxed atmosphere, the new refurbushments were very clean and unfussy.
The menu took a bit of working out and could be made easier we were not the only people who struggled with the menu. Its a shame that the original bar area was taken out as it had a cosy feel to it last time we were there.

Staff were very helpful and whwn heating was not working in the room did offer a different one.
The room heating was not working which at this time of the year did make the room ver cold. When reported the staff did offer to change the room but we had unpacked and were getting changed to go out. Luckily the manager did provide separate heater which worked well and eventually the heating was fixed.

"Visitor than the breakfast price, the hotel was lovely."
Room and overall cleanliness of hotel very good.
Breakfast was a ridiculous price. We had breakfast elsewhere and I bet a lot of other people would too. £12.50 for breakfast. My mother in law only wanted some cereal and wouldnt pay that price. Your hotel will lose money on breakfasts.

Having to pay a parking charge when you have your own hotel car park is not something I expected and even though not expensive would make me consider not staying at this hotel again when there is an option of free parking elsewhere.

" The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the city centre. Though we did see a travel lodge which was slightly closer to the centre which we will concider next time, and to be honest our room was like a travel lodge room!! Very very expensive we paid £109 for 1 night though I belive it should have been £169!!! there was no mini bar in the room the TV had only 5 channels that were free to view or you could pay £9.99 to watch the rest of the channels, listen to music and surf the net.... I would have expected this to be free after the amount they ask for. All in all we used it as a place to sleep for the night and it was adequate for that but at the price they charge discounted or not it wasn't value for money. I have stayed in various Hotels guest houses and B&B's all over the UK and Eire and I would not reccomend this hotel, unless you have money to burn and dont apprecitae the finer things in life!!!"
Very clean and tidy, staff were pleasent and helpfull
No shower in the room only a bath with a shower over it and the side's of the bath were extremly high!!! the bath was raised of the floor for some reason with no step into or out of itNo mini bar which I would have expected in this price range.

"GENERAL STAY WAS GOOD BUT HAD PAYMENTS TAKEN TWICE OUT OF MY BANK AND REALISED WHEN I GOT BACK . "
from Morley UK, stayed on June 17, 2008
"I booked to stay at the hotel only to receive an e-mail informing me that my room booking had been cancelled due to a problem with my credit card. I would have appreciated someone phoning me as I could have booked with another card. I was informed when I phoned the hotel that my room had been released and sold to somebody else. This does not reflect well on your hotel and given that I could be a good customer, could cost you a fair bit of money in the long run."
from Llanfair.p.g. UK, stayed on June 16, 2008
"Served it's purpose, no complaints."
Free parking. Only a short alk from city centre.Nice swimming pool
