"We booked pacifically to visit the Metro centre and really just needed a bed for the two nights and a good breakfast. For that this is an ideal hotel but if you are looking for more then maybe this isn't the place for you. After reading some of the previous reviews we were pleasantly suprised and enjoyed our stay."

ideal location for Metro centre,10 minute walk or a pound each way on the bus with stops right outside the hotel. Nioe cheap pub which does good food a short walk away. Nice breakfast, comfortable warm room.

My wife prefers a shower to a bath so was dissappointed there wasn't a shower. The tv was poor but did have a built in DVD which we used.

"Very good value for money, good amenities, easily reached"

Very friendly staff. Very good breakfast in the coservatory. 10 minute bus ride to Necastle fromn outside the door. Easy to find on the otskirts of town.

Situated in an area that is undergoing improvements - so some vacant land next door and industrial units nearby - but it was quiet.

"The room was nice and the area quiet at night but hard to find a meal. Reasonable rate but not a good location to stay."

Room was neat and clean. It was quite well set up with sufficient space and fair decor. Breakfast was adequate.

No meal available when we arrived - although it was quite late and bar did not remain open long. Hotel location w industrial and not easy for touring people to find. Breakfast was restricted and not well organised.

"value for money, very nice staff whom were helpful and accomadating"

A nice hotel, but in need of modenisation. Room clean and well mainained

Small things need doing, such as cutting trees back in carpark, deciding if there are to be plants in the conservatory, at the moment its a bit of both.

    "Very enjoyable"

Liked the nautical theme and very comfortable beds. Also excellent locatino for city centre - 30 minute walk along the river which was really enjoyable.

    Would have preferred a shower

    Friendly, helpful staff.

Poor shower - only hand-held. Dirty bathroom floor. Slow service at breakfast. Only instant coffee.

"this hotel was old and very dated, just about adequate in every respect. The milk pots in our room were a month out of date and were not replaced even after pointing it out. The bed was very uncomfortable, with a foam mattress and old, holy sheets. The nautical 'theme' was not very well executed with wooden panelling on every single wall showing it's age, made it feel claustrophobic and like the inside of an old wardrobe. Our room had a decent size bathroom but contained only a bath, not a shower. I saw the kitchen through an open door while looking for some fresh milk, regardless of their actual state of hygeine I would not order any food from here. "

    no rats

untidy reception area, dirty kitchen, milk in room out of date, uncomfortable bed with foam mattess, holes in sheets, bath not shower, booking not logged in diary - lucky they were not overbooked.

"The entrance to the carpark was not sign-posted and there was quite a bit of confusion over the road name"

The Nautical themes in all the rooms

Plain glass in the bathroom window meant the curtain had to be closed at all times to maintain privacy

"I assumed that it had a waterfront location and that it was surrounded by a wide selection of restaurants etc. In reality it is just outside a village with a limited choice of restaurants/entertainment, but is very convenient for the Metro-Centre. I assumed it would be a family hotel, but certainly on that weekend it appears to be somewhere to sleep after the nightclubs etc. have closed, and you do not have to observe any particular house-rules. Fine if you want that type of weekend yourself."

The breakfast was good, the rooms fine and staff were available and courteous at check-in, breakfast and check-out.

The main problem was the complete lack of order after hours on a Saturday night. Guests arrived, visited each others rooms and were generally loud in corridors and their own rooms throughout the night. I was not aware of any porter service that could be called on. The result was a very disturbed night for myself and 3 other guests within my booking group.

AS WELL AS THE ON-SUITE FACILITIES THERE WAS TEA/COFFE EQUIPMENT.A RADIO AND TELEVISION.

"1st visit to this Hotel & will definitely stay again - I am a single business traveller & being female felt very comfortable in this hotel. The room was very comfortable & it was a change to have & full size bath as well as a shower. The food & service were excellent. Slightly awkward main entrance & stairs to negotiate, but would not put me off visiting again. The small TV in the room was giving a poor reception during my stay."

it was clean, comfortable & a reasonably quiet location once local businesses had closed for the day. The food was excellent & the service very good

Slightly awkward access through main doors & position of stairs & as always with most hotels, the bath towels were very small. no-one except Copthorne Hotels seem to do decent sized bath towels

"On the one hand the hotel is situated well for reaching by car, but it is in an awful industrial environment and - more important - it's quite far from the city Newcastle en Gateshead. We liked the room decorated as a ship cabin, but the window couldn't be openend, so fresh air could only come in via the window of the bathroom. The hotel is most appropriate for people who want to visit the Metrocentre. So all together: a mixed experience."

The room and the approach by the manager.

It was a bit noisy in the evening, because of some hotel guests and because we hadn't a room on a quite part as asked for by booking.

The staff, the room was ok breakfast was fab.

The walls are paper thin you can hear everything next door. Noisy floors. The water pressure was nil and pipes leaked all over the floor. Didn't sleep due to noise in adjacent bedroom, not hotels fault but thin walls don't help.
