A very nice, traditonal, hotel in a beautiful location - both accommodation and meal was very good value for money.

TV remote control - battery compartment cover missing.

    "Good value overall. "

Rooms very spaceous. Good additional seating, tables etc. Breakfast buffet was very good. Staff very helpful and polite. Hotel looked very smart, possible recent re-furb.

Lighting was poor. Plenty of lights, but all very dim. Only good lighting was in bathroom.

    "Overall, a nice hotel. "

    Nice location. Good breakfast.

Pricey drinks. Did not bring additional pillows as requested. Rooms far too hot even with radiator turned right down.

"As expected for a one night business stop over"

Good value for money, less than half the rack rate.

The receptionist was quite rude to a couple of foreign travellers who were asking for the address details to be modified on their bills during checkout tutting and huffing. This hotel has only a desk as reception and it is always busy when you leave I have stayed here before. She did not set a good example of British hotles or hospitality. Visitor members of staff were fine.

"It was supposed to be a romantic relaxing spa weekend before I leave for Afghanistan spending quality time with my husband as our 1st wedding anniversary present - not as relaxing or as luxurious as was planned by the let down points detailed above."

Food and restaurant staff were excellent. Room high standards and loved the Teddy Bear.

The beauty salon was seperate from hotel but this was not made clear at time of booking- tried to book in for massage but didn't open at stated time then only had a limited service to offer. Gym facilities ok but paper towels not refilled. Spa not working at 14.30 when switched on was very cold as not filled with hot water- sauna not switched on so had to switch it on ourselves and wait for it getting warm. Staff started cleaning the swimming pool area which had not been used all morning and spilt Flash cleaning liquid into swimming pool! Staff working on gym equipment whilst supposedly on duty!

"Relaxing short holiday with good value comfort. Just what we needed to recharge the batteries."

Nice hotel environment, in the country but close to Chester and other attractions to visit. Good food. Gym well equipped.

Very few bad points. A few of the staff seemed a little inexperienced bar staff on one night did not know what an Armanac was - I noticed it later on a menu - and gave me a brandy instead but with ice in it. In our bedroom the light switch covered all the lights in the room. It was impossible to switch on one bedside lamp at a time to read in the middle of the night without disturbing the person in the other twin bed. The system ran out of hot water one morning when we had a long lie in.

    "Good and bad!!"

Excellent value for money and the staff in the main were helpful and curteous.

I booked a wake up call for 7am with the receptionist, but I didn't get one. As I woke an hour and a half later, I was very late for my first appointment and didn't have breakfast. Very, very annoying, as, up until that episode, the hotel would have been given an excellent rating throughout!!

"Well satisfied. Would definitely stay there every time I visit Chester. Already recommended it to relatives"

Excellent, helpful staff. Hotel surroundings really attractive, excellent breakfast, outstanding value for money

Room excessively hot. Bath needs replacing. Under the shower screen, the bath has holes in it, very unhygenic. Room 2

    "Excellent"

The hotel has loads of character. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The hotel has a very relaxed atmosphere. There are three areas within the hotel ot sit and have a drink or just read a book. The restaurant food is of a high standard. Every room I have stayed in has been excellent. The facilities within the room and the rest of the hotel are always good. Its the 'best value for money'hotel I have stayed in.

"One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. There was nothing that we could fault about the hotel. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Highly recommended and will definately be returning in the near future."

From the minute we arrived I couldn't fault the hotel. Excellent value for money. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff were more than accommodating and helped out in upgrading us from a twin room to double room prior to arrival as no extra cost. Nothing was too much for the staff and our stay was one of the best experiences we have had. We will definately stay again and are already planning a trip to return some time in the new year.

There is nothing bad that I can say about this hotel.

"Overall very pleasant and comfortable "

Very comfortable accommodation with good decor and facilities.

On the second visit there were some items lacking at breakfast and we had to ask for our tea. the provision of toast also had to be requested and supply was less than on previous stay or the neighbouring tables of same occupancy.

Good Location. Staff very friendly. Room comfortable but a little dated. Health Club small but clean and useable.

Access to Car Park is dreadful - road very uneven, glad I had a 4x4!

"The hotel was excellent and the staff friendly. The breakfast had a wide variety of choice and kept us full until tea time. The only bad points was that the bar was not manned all the time and you sometimes had to go looking for someone to serve you. Also it would've been nice to have a copy of the menu and prices for the restaurant in the rooms so that you could see what was on offer."

The room was very nicely decorated, clean and tidy. With excellent facilities

"I enjoyed the experince, the Hotel was in a great location in the middle of nowhere, which suited me for my traveling, The only thing I could fault was the heat in the room and in the corridors was stifling, but other than that it was perfect"

I found the staff very friendly and willing to help with any problem

I had booked to stay 4 nights at 50 pounds per night, and when I went to check out, they charged me 3 nights at 55 pounds, and 1 night at the agreed rate of 50 pounds I did not argue I just paid.

The only negative aspect was the cooked breakfast which was a little dry and not very appoetising. Next time I would order a fresh breakfast from the menu."

It was clean, welcoming, the staff were friendly.

The food served for the buffet Welsh breakfast was dry and not very appetising.

"Given the price of the room that I paid over the internet, I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel and the accommodation provided. This must be one of the best and most pleasant hotels in the area. It is well situated and with a relaxed feel. Everything seems to be well maintained and the staff are friendly."

Hotel is nicely situated, in a very attractive area and grounds. Hotel is well kept and clean. Room is clean, spacious and well maintained. Bed comfortable. Coffee and tea-making facilities in the room. Bathroom en suite, with bath don't like showers.

Lighting in the room is very dim difficult to read newspaper. Toiletries shampoo, body gel not renewed every day. Self-served breakfast provides only scrambled eggs - no fried or boiled eggs, though these can be ordered.

"HOTEL WAS GOOD STAFF WERE VERY NICE, HAD ROOM SERVICE WHICH WAS GOOD. THE BREAKFAST WOULD BE NICE SERVED TO YOU RATHER THAN SELF SERV. BATHROOM WAS VERY VERY DIRTY ABD NEEDED WORK DOING ON IT."

I LIKED THATS THE HOTEL HAD LOVELY ROOMS TO SIT AND HAVE COFFEE OR A DRINK IN. STAFF WERE VERY NICE.

THE BATHROOM WAS FILTHY THE WOOD WAS CHIPED OFF AND DIRT IN EVERY CORNER. BUT THE BED ROOM WAS VERY CLEAN SO DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE BATHROOM WAS SO BAD.

"Great location, set in lovely grounds. Excellent value. Friendly staff. This is my 3rd stay and I've enjoyed it every single time and can recommend it for a relaxing break with easy access to Chester & Wrexham. The gym has really good facilites and the pool, although on the smaller side is adequate for a quick wallow! Really good food, particularly the sausages at breakfast! Can also recommend the Golden Lion pub for food, just a stroll down the road."

Location, comfortable rooms and great facilities. Excellent value accommodation.

The bar prices seemed a little high but I guess this is typical of hotel prices

"I found the staff very pleasant and the location great."

    location

having an ajoinging room, at 4.45am the gentleman next door had an 1.5hour conversation with his company and it was like he was in my room. I was then told at checkout that it was surprising that I was put in an ajoining room as there were many rooms available. What should have been a relaxing night between to hectic business days I was left exhausted and not relaxed.

we we're up graded to a suite which was excellent as our inital room was really beautiful too

However we were generally pleased with our stay and may wish to return at a later date as the hotel is conveniently placed to visit relatives in the general area."

"The hotel setting was beautiful and perfectly decorated for Christmas. The restaurant was very stylish and the food, although a little pricy, absolutely delicious we sent compliments to the chef and although we walked into the restaurant as they were finishing for the night, the staff were very efficient, friendly and served us as if we were the first diners of the night. Overall the rooms need a little TLC and the details of the booking need more attention but generally a great Hotel with friendly staff and a excellent restaurant/chef."

The room was warm, clean and tidy the TV was very stylish and the shower hot and powerful just what you need after a long drive the chocolates on the pillow are a nice touch.

Although I had booked a double room we were given a twin but as it was so late that we turned up due to traffic I didn't feel it was worth moving as the restaurant only served till 9.15pm and it was already 9.00pm so made a dash for dinner instead... also the bath was very discolored and the paintwork all chipping and falling off also the side lights did not work unless the main light was on, which was very bright.

"we went for a relaxing weekend after my daughter finished her exams. all spa treatments were booked by non-residents or the area was closed. there was no steam room even though you advertised this fact in your own rooms. staff thought we were staying for one night and not the 2 that were booked so we were disturbed twice on our first day. there was a wedding on on the sat and kids were left to run riot and no attemp was made by staff to parents for control and we were given a room virtually above the reception so were disturbed by it from arrival until midnight. there were no card keys available to access rooms for the whole stay so we had to go to reception every time we needed entry to our room. we had to wait 15 mins for someone to turn up to the pool area to get towels and on the 2nd day the jacuzzi was out of use."
