"We stayed mid-week when the hotel was very quiet. We were given an upgrade to a family room so excellent value. Alfriston is a pretty if rather touristy village not far from Brighton and Lewes, and hotel is on south side ideally located for morning walks to the sea. Room was clean and comfortable, staff very pleasant, breakfast excellent. "

Great location near footpaths to the sea, excellent breakfast, clean, comfortable, very pleasant staff, reasonable-sized outdoor pool.

Only very minor points - water pressure in basin and shower quite low. We had specifically chosen this hotel because of the heated outdoor swimming pool and due to a problem this had been drained and was being refilled. Fortunately for us it was nearly full and we could swim in it - but not heated yet so rather chilly!

"Very enjoyable stay, only slightly let down by a few minor adverse points. Having now stayed at the three main hotels in Alfriston over several years, would certainly return to this one when in area again."

Bed turn down service is a nice touch

Shower curtain too short so hard to avoid wetting bathroon floor; Resuarant staff could have advised on relative lack of veg with main course and recommended ordering extra; some food not quite as hot as it could have been

"Greatly appreciated the up-grade to Junior Suite wonderful Garden and Downs View with small supplement as standard double was poky and dark and looked out over the car park. Marked " adequate" see above"

Excellent Kitchen when Lukas sous chef was on duty - otherwise fair to medium Liked the idea of a free library of DVDs but did not try it!

Would have liked a fridge/ mini-bar/ glass glasses but not that important. Large discrepancy between Direct Booking Rates with Hotel and Hotelroom.com rates

Decent room and bathroom both clean, comfy bed, friendly staff and well positioned for short walk into village.

Restaurant a bit pricey at about

"A reasonable stay spoilt by a poor dinner."

    Lovely setting

The set dinner was expensive and the menu had a limited choice. Also the food was not of good enough quality.

"I would go back to this hotel, but only if there was no function booked."

The location, staff, food, and facilities were great.A really charming country hotel.

We were located in what was supposed to be a quiet room as there was a function on, but we were kept awake until after midnight, and despite being shown other rooms, the noise levels were pretty much the same. I feel we should have been pre-warned.

"I loved being in the older part of the hotel - it was full of character but next time I will have a single room away from what sounded like a boiler or electrical appliance which hummed away all night. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and I found a quiet, cosy snug in which to have supper the night before. The staff are most polite and helpful and I would like to have a much longer stay next time. It really is a most delightful hotel and I can heartily recommend it."

delightful beamed room with good quality furnishings.

"Very comfortable hotel with lovely service and good food. Very handy for all sorts of walks. Shame the tv reception in the room was poor. The rugby was difficult to see, which took the edge off for my partner However, liked the idea of the dvd availability."

"we only needed an overnight stay before going on next day. the hotel was very good and well situated and i would stay there again. my 9 year old son though it was good. as above i thought that it was not good to have someone come to my room at 10 a.m. asking if i was going. overall good experience."

the hotel was very helpful, the food was good and the service also. everything was clean and easy use.

someone coming to our room at 10 a.m. asking us to leave.

"Booked in haste, on-line as we were taking our son to University at Brighton and could not find closer accomodation. The hotel was of a higher standard than expected. We did not eat in the restaaurant in the the evening of our stay but as the restaurant was award winning we would have liked to. The breakfast was delicious and the grounds the next morning were very attractive and the outdoor pool looked tempting in the September sunshine ."

    Comfortable, attractive grounds, excellent breakfast

"Very good hotel in superb location. Lovely gardens. Easy access to walks ,very pretty village, close to seaside and Brighton. Some rooms at the hotel appeared to be much smaller than the one we had so room allocation might be important."

Large comfortable room. Great views over countryside. Excellent restaurant

"Enjoyed stay. Bar service was a little slow and restaurant waiter asked whether we could remember menu or did we want to see the menu again!! Food excellent, wonder why hotel does not have AArosette. There was a school disco there one night but we did not hear any noise at all. A big conference was arriving as we left so it was difficult leaving as car park was stacked. The trouble with the toilets was due to blockages after exceptional rain and altough it was late the receptionist dealt with our change of rooms quickly and effeciently. The grounds of the hotel are lovely and the village of Alfriston charming. Would recommend."

Upgrade room was very spacious with lovely views of grounds. Very comfortable and quiet. Lovely big towels

1st room allocated toilet did not flush...we were then given a smoking room which I rejected so ended up with an upgrade. The bathroom was a little sparse for its size - needed an extra surface for toiletries.

"I would recommend with the one reservation that staff should try and book non-wedding guests as far away from the wedding disco as possible! However, we did get a discount for the inconvenience. I would stay again. Staff are in general helpful and lend visitors essentials such as umbrellas etc. I enjoy the games such as boule and croquet."

    Good location near Alfriston village.

I have stayed here twice, and both times discos near our room went on till midnight.

Exzcellent location for access to the South Downs Way and other walks around the county. A beautiful building in a lovely location. We got the swimming pool to ourselves - which was lovely!

We had a twin-room, but the beds were narrow-singles - I was concerned about hitting my head on the bedside table in the night whenever I turned over! The room-doors could do with a soft-closing device as other guests regularly banged their doors shut, both in the evening and morning.

"The food in their restaurant is actually very good. Highly recommended. The room was larger than most of the hotels I stayed in the recent weeks. Large free car park at back. Getting in and out of the area by way of the town is a bit of a challenge because of very narrow streets. But the south route is very scenic."

    Quiet place and good restaurant.

Isolated and too far from convenience like restaurants.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Deans Place Hotel despite enduring some typical Easter weather. The staff were uniformly excellent and friendly, the room was large and comfortable and the bar both cozy and warm. It would have been nice to have enjoyed the outdoor pool, but we were too early, and the restaurant food was definitely at the top-end of our budget though, as you might expect, it was very pleasant. All in all we had a very comfortable and relaxing weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone looking for an easy weekend."

The hotel is very pretty, set in lovely grounds and has character in keeping with the area.

    Nothing.

"The only critism I would make it is the hotel was quite hard to find but once discovered it was worth it. Lovely food beautifully served, adequate parking, comfortable rooms and well stocked bar. a truly delightful find - which if I was in that part of the country again I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!"

A very unusual hotel, contemporary in design and extremely comfortable. Room was spacious and spotlessly clean. I loved the decor and found it to be extremely relaxing. I felt I wanted to spend more time there.

I don't know if there are. i couldn't fault it.

"The hotel was situated on the Seaford side of alfriston, close to the river and easy access to the South Downs. An excellent base for Hiking. There was ample car parking. The bedrooms are strung out along corridors with steps up and down along their route so if you had mobility difficulties i would recommend lettting the hotel know when booking. A good hotel if somewhat overpriced."

The staff were excellent. My rooms were available by 1030am and i was allowed to check-in straight away. Breakfast was buffet style and excellent.

Room decor did not justify the price. The rooms were tiny.
