After booking through the web i was not booked in the hotel when i turned up. fortunatly they had spare rooms otherwise i would have to have left to find alternative accomdation

excellent service from the staff, clean adequate room, excellent ensuite, and the breakfast was just an amazing cooked buffet, especially when you consider the chain hotels charge you upwards of £10 for a measily meal.

No lift, no offer of help with bags. Breakfast chef needs to wash his frying pans better as the eggs were black underneath!!

Very nice clean hotel. Excellent value for the money. The Scottish breakfast was excellent too. I'm a Scot visiting from US and really enjoyed the food and presentation.

"The hotel was central and convenient."
Breakfast was really good.
I felt the receptionist on duty was a bit sharp when we asked about the parking. Also, a couple of the waiting staff seemed quite grumpy in the morning at breakfast time.

the breakfast was top notch.
The only bad point is something the hotel has no control over. It is located on quite a steep hill. After a long day of walking the hill only grew higher!

"Overall a decent place to stay. In comparison with some others in the UK it was brilliant. I think my North American sensibilities expected a higher quality overall. I would stay here again as the staff were quite wonderful and they seemed to make efforts to improve."
Lovely staff and breakfast. Good location. Clean. Very friendly. Liked the front sitting area outside. Bright room and fairly quiet. Competitive prices.
The light over one of the beds didn't work and when we sat on the back patio it was hard not to notice it was falling in and hadn't been cleaned in a while. The beds were a bit lumpy and some of the milk supplied with the coffee supplies was sour -no shampoos or little extras.

"I found that all the people who worked there are very friendly & when we asked if we could change rooms we were very so much helped . I would recommend this hotel & would stay there again ..The breakfast they offer have many good selections to choose from "
Overall the hotel is in a good location for shopping & with so many people staying here it is a nice way to meet new people from all over the world . The people on the desk were very friendly & helpful
With the hotel being 5 floors high & it having no lift it is hard walking up so many steps so one does have to be in great health..I foind that the room we stayed in wasn't vacuumed on a regular basis ..A good sugestion would be to hire someone to help out in carrying the luggage up so many flights ..

Hotel is a bit run down and in need of refreshing. Heating constantly on which meant room was like a sauna.

The general appearance of the hotel is excellent - very big and beautiful vitorian house. Very comfortable room.

It was clean, tidy, reasonably attractive and, above all, quiet. The breakfast arrangements and food were also good.
Just one minor thing. We observed a member of staff feeding cats with food from the kitchen, serving the food on paper napkins. That was fine, but she had obviously done so over several days without removing the soggy and soiled paper napkins from the area just outside the door from the breakfast room into the garden area. This did not enhance the appearance of the garden!

my request for a ground floor room was honoured for my father
the fact that there were 28 stone deep steps up to the hotel difficult for my 93 year old father no mention of this or lack of lift

"This hotel would benefit from some new paintwork, and some refurbishment. That aside the staff were friendly, the standard of cleaning was good better in fact than a very much more expensive hotel only about 200 metres away, the breakfast buffet choice was good and the quality of the cooked breakfast excellent again much better than the expensive hotel down the street."

"It was great to be able to book a single room and not have to pay for a double. Accommodation was simple but comfortable and the breakfast was great value and good strong coffee. Could have done with a warning about how hot the tap water was - almost scalded myself."

"The standard of accommodation was lower than I would have expected, dated decor and dirty paint on the walls. The tv had all the channels mixed up and no way of seeing what was on. The stairs made carrting heavy cases up and down impossible."

"The hotel was awful, the smell in the hall way was worse that the smell in the bed room, just. We left at 7.30am without breakfast as I couldn't stomach it as well as the room and general smell of the place."
Cheap car parking ticket available. People were friendly enough.
Mixed detol and I don't know what smells all through the place. Room was grubby - if I hadn't have been so tired I would have left. Sorry but I would not recomend this place even as a joke to someone!!
