"very dissapointed, i paid 85 pound for a room with an inadequate shower and a bad smell to it. the room was the smallest ive ever stayed in. i have stayed at the woodlands before and was impressed so i had high hopes. i use alot of hotels so was hoping to find this one to be as good as the woodlands. i will not be staying again and i will not recommend this hotel."
very polite and efficient staff. set in lovely grounds.
shower pressure was extremely poor and barely useable. bits of wall paper missing above bed. the room was no bigger then a match box. the room had a stale moldy smell to it. poor service during breakfast

"Good. I would stay again, but my impression was that Saturday afternoon staff were trying hard but were stressed, perhaps by wedding? "
Breakfast staff very courteous and efficient. Bedroom clean and comfortable.
Check in staff pleasant, but at past 2 pm unsure if room was ready. When requested to phone to ask, found out that it was. Was shouted at by staff member who mistook me for someone else while crossing car park. Room very over-crowded with stuff, little room to put anything, table top covered in knick-knacks with not particular purpose, cupboard full with ironing board, etc. Less stuff would be helpful. high quality materials and comfortable bed speak for themselves.

"Second stay at this hotel. It's slightly idiosynchratic - staff are mostly very young and don't seem to always know what to do, or do it very quickly or efficiently."
Excellent rooms and decor, very clean, very comfortable.
We did not like the breakfast in the Marquee both mornings, poor atmosphere, draughty. Slow service at dinner.

"Nice looking place to Stay. Will be really nice when finished."
Very nice setting and very spacious, clean room.
Not all listed TV channels were available. Tea/Coffee making facility could be complemented with Biscuits. Breakfast buffet was very 'tired' by the time we arrived for breakfast at 9.30am Hotel information pack in the room had workman's sketches still in. Had the feeling the room was still 'Work in Progress' e.g Nowhere to put soap at the wash basin.

"All in all we had a very relaxing weekend; the hotel had several wedding parties and we didn't feel left out or overlooked by any of the staff, we had lunch in the restaurant on our last day and it was very enjoyable and good value for money. "
Staff were friendly and accommadating, our room in the West Wing was spacious bright and airy, with satellite TV and coffee making facilities.
Shelf in en suite needed to be dusted cleaned. Dinner plates should have been warmed. No vegetariansausages option with the Yorkshire breakfast.

"Price on par with likes of travel lodge. Nicer settings and surroundings. But cost of food in evening was higher. Would still stay again though. "
Clean, good quality, nice setting. Excellent breakfast.
The evening meal was good food and well presented but small portions and quite expensive.

"A nice quiet location well fitted out with quality furnishings. DVD player in room handy if you remember to bring DVD's. Locals enthuse about it for functions - weddings & special occasions. Left feeling quite relaxed & ready for work."
Pleasant hotel, clean, attractive building. Quiet location but a stone's throw from the motorway.
Dinner main meals, I had fish and chips - poprtion covered half a dinner plate, chips were fried mash. Not good value for money, child's portion. Could have a comfy chair in bedroom & more than terrestrial TV.

"The hotel is interesting, with boutique-style bedrooms. Restaurant superb. No traffic noise."
Excellent restaurant

"As my first night of stay was a Sunday the menu in the restaurant seemed restrictive and there were no prices included, this and the fact that the room had been set up for breakfast regardless of the fact that i had booked was disappointing."
The room was lovely and well proportioned.
Returning in the afternoon i found the door to my room was unlocked but still relatively secure I assume by the maid, also the ordered paper was not delivered to my room on day 1 of my stay.

"We have stayed at The Savoy, which was OK. We have stayed at the Seaham Hall Hotel which was very good as have been other places. But the Aston Hall Hotel easily surpasses any preious experience. Brilliant. The rooms are magnificent thank you designer and housekeeper, the gardens serene with magnificent views into Derby dales, and the parking is at the door. The reception, restaurant and service were all relaxingly friendly with understated competence. Also the location is spot on for us to break a journey between our home in Newcastle and our relatives in Surrey so avoiding any rush hours. The Aston Hall is a rare gem, and we hope to succeed in making future reservations. Thanks to all who created and run this excellent experience."
Fabulous location, fabulously presented
Saturday night on the first floor was disturbed by wedding party revellers in the garden below. Please consider internal secondary glazing for noise attenuation. We appreciate it must be a listed building. Our second bedroom, Empire Fork, had no mirror at reasonable height to apply make up, consider a mirror stand on the desk. We are optimistic that these can be easily rectified and remember only the fabulous presentation.

"Food was great. I was disappoiunted that I couldn't get internet access. Being a solo traveller it would have been good to have some leisure facilities at the hotel."
Room was fantastic
No hot water in the shower in the morning.

"Nicely renovated rooms, bit bland but clean and spacious room. Bathroom needs last few details attending to as it spoilt our overall stay. There was a towel in the sink when we arrived, apparently put there to muffle the noise of the dripping tap. As the bathroom smelt awful, it suggested this was not a new problem. Also even thought the bathroom fittings were lovely, it was spoilt with black bits in the bath falling from the poorly finished loft hatch above. Just sort out the little details and then it would be great."
Peaceful setting
Bathroom - dripping tap, smell of damp and black bits in bath from loft hatch above

"Very good. Next time we will stay in a room away from the parking/smoking area."
Spacious and clean
On front of hotel where noise from drunken wedding guests disturbed us. Also smoke drifted up and into our room.

"This is a comfortable hotel with fabulous iews and friendly helpful staff. Very near the motorway and great for a stop off on the way to the north. Value for money for a treat."
Accomodation was very comfortable, especially the bed and the room had a great proper sized bath
Nothing except that it would have been nice to have had fresh milk for tea and coffee.

"When I booked the room on line I requested a smoking room. The booking receipt said if one was available. I phoned the hotel to check the booking and again was told I could have a smoking room if there was one available. On arrival I was told that all of the rooms are non smoking, that means that I was told a lie as they knew that when I phoned. However the room was very good. We had lunch and invited our daughter and family. The hotel is very child friendly and we were impressed with staff attitude to young people, it made it a very pleasent lunch with no one feeling uncomfortable as can happen when dining with children although they were well behaved they are learning social skills one being 3 and one 7 months. It was very relaxing. The breakfast choice was excellent and the food superb. Thank you ! Please do consider reinstating smoking rooms that would be the only thing that would prevent me booking again, we do use hotels in the area regularly and Aston Hall is the best so far except for the non smoking rooms."
The size of the room.It was warm and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding clean and aired.

lovely loacation, excellent helpful and friendly staff.
smaller room than expected, the bathroom was very cold evan with the radiator in there! the bath was very old and seemed dirty without being rude!

"We had travelled to Sheffield for my daughter's graduation and due to the large volume of visitors in the city had been unable to book into a hotel nearer to the city centre. We were however delighted to find that Aston Hall still had a room available for us. Although not a cheap hotel it was not unduly over budget. It has obviously been recently refurbished and it has to be said that the interior designer has much flair and an eye for detail. Our one and only criticism was the placing of the mirrors... we needed to admire ourselves and there was not a full length mirror in our room. We would have liked to have stayed longer as we found the surrounding countryside very beautiful."
The hotel was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. the staff welcoming and friendly, the menu excellent. All in all we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone on business or leisure trip.
from Buckley United Kingdom;UK, stayed on November 28, 2006
"As stated, this is an excellent hotel set in beautiful grounds just a couple of minutes from the M1 - although you wouldn't know it because it is so peaceful. The room we had was large, clean and very comfortable and enjoyed views across the gardens. Breakfasts were excellent with a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, etc., and the cooked breakfasts were prepared to perfection. This was a most enjoyable and relaxing few days and, if we needed to visit this area again, we would definitely be looking to stay at Aston Hall."
Excellent hotel in beautiful grounds.
The bathroom was in need of some attention - some floor tiling needed regrouting and the shower head was difficult to keep in place in use. These were minor issues which did not effect the enjoyment of our stay.

TV reception was very poor

"This hotel was absolutely charming. From checking in to checking out we had a lovely, relaxing time. The food was lovely, breakfast is a delight, and the service was first class. There is a lovely, peaceful and well run aura about this hotel, and we only wished we could have stayed longer. Waking up in the morning and seeing the wonderful views and experiencing the peaceful atmosphere all around was particularly enjoyable - a real break away from it all! Without hesitation, we would book this hotel again in a heartbeat!"
Reception is beautiful. Room was lovely. Grounds were fantastic and well maintained. Wonderful charming and calming atmosphere.
Nothing at all, only I would recommend that full length mirrors be put in all rooms, for the ladies!

"I am all for fun and do hope that the wedding that had been beautifully prepared went well, however our relaxing evening away was disturbed by having two functions within 24 hours. There was also an uncomfortable mix up regarding the bill which was only solved by me showing the booking information which stated that breakfast was included in the price paid. I am glad I had taken the infomation with us as I do belive the "
The staff, food, grounds and facilities were perfect. we couldn't have asked for more. In particular the reception girls and night porter, excelled. The reception girl found us lots of local information from the internet and the night porter had a fabulous knowledge of the local area, also the history and future of Aston Hall, The information he shared with us was interesting and delivered with an enthusiasm that is rarely found. Thank you. oh, the bed was so comfy too.
Unfortunately our stay at Aston Hall coincided with two very busy functions which caused our stay to be far from relaxing. On arrival dozens of corporate day guests swarmed loudly with only themselves in mind. The following morning was consumed by very exited wedding guests.

"Overall a very pleasant, distinctive and professional experience let down by a seemingly small issue, which sadly forms a large part of most peoples definition of luxury."
The service, location and interior design were all excellent.
The shower was very awkward to use,as it's mounting on the wall wasn't positioned correctly and it lacked water pressure. Also the ventilator fan was very noisy.

"We enjoyed our stay. Our room was an unusual shape half-oval and we were not sure if the bathroom extractor fan was working correctly. We would have liked more milk, and some biscuits on the room hospitality tray. The room did not looked as if it had been refurbished under the ongoing refurbishment plan, as there was no drawer space and the wardrobe could have been bigger; so will no doubt be better in future. Overall the information provided prior to booking was adequate."
We were particularly pleased with the interest, attitude and care of the staff. We also liked the airiness of the bedroom and dining room. We were pleased to find sheets and blankets on the bed rather than a duvet ONLY.
We thought the decor was somewhat clinical and stark in the public areas.

"I did expect there to be internet access in the rooms but there was not. However I did get a signal in the lobby. The food was delicious. I had to ask for a room service menu - there was not one in the room. However reception were very good and organised for my dessert to be brought a little after my main meal - the first time a hotel has offered this to me. Overall the service was excellent and I would recommend the hotel."
The setting was lovely and the lobby was gorgeous.
The room was very small and looked a bit past its best. However I understand you have plans to refurbish.

"I would have liked to know how splendid the hotel is, as the drive to it had me worried. It is not situated in the prettiest part of Sheffield. I liked the extra care the staff took and the feeling of time, space and relaxation that was created. This is a hotel I would definitely choose to stay in again and if they buil a swimming pool it would be perfect."
Aston Hall was acharming, elegant , old fashioned hotel ideal for relaxing in with very friendly and helpful staff and a hugely impressive restaurant. It is a smaller hotel than many in the area and that makes the sense of care and feeling of comfort so much greater.
Two tiny things only: The TV picture was hopeless in my room There is never enough little milk cartons in the room
from Glasgow United Kingdom;UK, stayed on April 19, 2006
"The overall decorative condition of the room and more importantly that of the bathroom was particularly poor. I understand the hotel is in the throes of being renovated but given that on the night of my stay there were no other guests it would have been easy to allocate a room more reflective of the standards the management strive to maintain. Regretfully I left disappointed and unable to recommend to my colleagues."
The reception area and restaurant was attractive, obviously having benefitted from recent restoration/decoration.
Condition of the room allocated.

"Very enjoyable, we think we have found a gem of a hotel and intend to return."
Excellent hotel, staff were very accomodating and helpful. Room was beautifully decorated and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. We couldn't fault the hotel or staff.
The only minor bad point was that the make up mirror light was not working!
