"Staff were friendly and we loved the setting of the hotel - only real gripe was the room view! We would consider a return visit. "

Bedroom and bathroom clean. Bathroom particularly attractive including toiletries. Beautiful setting and gardens. Bar food well presented. Excellent breakfast selection.

Our room 42 was over the kitchen roof - a disappointing view given the room price.

    Staff very friendly and helpful.

Wildly overpriced, bordering on Four Seasons cost without the Four Seasons facilities. Room small. No internet facility.

"I normally use a cheaper hotel nearby 3 nights every week. The service and quality of my usual hotel is the same, if not better than the Priest House. I only stay here if other hotels are full."

    Great location/surroundings

Overpriced when booking direct. Also the bar is overpriced. On a previous stay the heating/hot water broke down 2 nights in a row mid winter. No offer to move me into the empty rooms in the main building and no apology.

"Lovely, would like to stay in the old building another time"

well equipped room. Lovely to have breakfast in bed at no extra cost

was charged for a double portion in brasserie. Steward didn't ask what size, but refunded us when we pointed out the error.

Mattress was very soft. Wine list expensive

    "Classy hotel. "

No lift in hotel. Not really a BAD point, but this hotel is well off the beaten track - great in fine weather, but in snow conditions, which there were the week before my stay, access would be nigh on impossible and impassable!

"A lovely relaxed weekend in a wonderful hotel. Everything to a high standard. We would liked to have come on a better weather weekend so we could have seen the grounds to thier full potential but that cant be helped!!!!!!."

The accomodation was to a very high standard and it was nice to have a power shower for a change!!!!!! Everything was clean and well presented. Would definatley stay again.Breakfast was excellent and value for money.

"We enjoyed our stay and the criticisms above are minor. We would have liked what's on brochures available in the room. Those in the guest directory were somewhat limited. You may care to revisit the history of the place on the website. I've not checked it out in detail however James 1 did not come to the throne until 1603 so I don't not see how he could have confirmed a grant in 1601. Also in 1664 the Civil war had been over 15 years Charles 1 was excuted in 1649and Charles 11 was firmly in the throne. The sentence beginning Loyalist garrisons.. does seem to flow. When you revise the narrative I suggest you put the events in chronological order."

Lovely setting, good food and wines

Wash basin in bathroon did not drain and TV signal fluctuated

"we ate in the brassierie, it was not good value for money, I had pasta which was not particularly hot. We ordered cheese and biscuits which was £8.95 and consisted of the tiniest amount of cheese and three crackers, this was disgusting. One of the minute pieces of cheese was so hard and stale it was inedible. We did complain and it was removed from our bill. The cost of the food did not relect the quality. Also the breakfast order was wrong not that great either. We loved the hotel but the food was poor."

    The setting was beautiful

There was a wedding at the same time so the bar was absolutely swamped, we could not get near the bar to get a drink

"But In general I enjoyed my stay."

The location, the staff, the atmosphere

I stayed in room nr. 5. Later that night someone checked in. I could hear this person walking in the room. It woke me up. The room is very noisy that way

"Beautifully furnished accomodation all furnished to a high standard. We stayed in the cottages, would like to stay in the main hotel next time. Lovely quiet setting and you really feel as if you are away from it all. All the staff were very friendly and amenable. We had a meal in the restruarant which was lovely, all nicely presented and tasted beautiful. The information we were given prior to booking was excellent, may have been better to have more photo's. A lovely setting for a romantic break. I would highly recommend this venue for a short peaceful break."

contempory furnishings, very comfortable bed, excellent service from all staff.

Nothing, could not fault it. unable to stay longer due to commitments

"The staff were professional and courteous. The restaurant and brasserie are excellent with good quality food well presented and served very hot without the food becoming dry. The room was small and tight for two people. I had to rearrange the furniture to be able to move around easily. The remote control for the the very nice flat plasma screen was not working. There was no fridge and no mini bar. Very pretty location even during the period of heavy rain and flooding in the region. The car park was flooded but access to hotel was not a problem."

    Covenient to airport. Good restaurant

    small room

    quiet

The room and onsuite facility in the cottage not really a cottage but a nearby building was not considered of a standard to warrant the price - which did not include breakfast.

"To be really fussy; 1, ask for the room heater to be turned on before you arrive, 2, if you are in standard room ask for an upstairs room. This involves stairs but is quieter. 3, the restaurant is too expensive"

Most things. It is a lovely setting and doesn't feel like just another hotel.

"I wondered whether the hotel was genuinely old, though the website did try and give that impression. The public areas were quite noisy because of two weddings taking place and it was uncomfortable sitting in the bar and too noisy to eat in the brasserie. We were given a room away from the wedding guests to sleep but I still heard carousing down the corridor in the middle of the night - and I don't know what time it was because there was no clock in the room, another omission. The staff - mainly Eastern European we noticed - were unfailingly polite and helpful - though someone did try and come in to clean our room ten minutes before we were checking out."

It all looked good and stylish

The television was incredibly difficult to operate and there was no sound on Sky News. The bathroom looked great but the tap in the basin was hard to turn off, the sink and the bath were slow to drain - the bath mat covered the plughole/

"I have no real criticisms. The overall experience was very good. The food in particular I'd recommend. I would definitely stay there again if in the area."

"Lovely hotel, lovely location on the river, very nice rooms. Brasserie food very good as was breakfast. The restaurant and check in staff were were extremely polite and helpful. However, we paid a special half price rate and I do not think it is worth the full rate especially as it does not have leisure facilities nor the feeling of luxury. I would suggest that any future guests check whether there is a wedding going on when they wish to stay. I have no problem with there being a wedding as such but there was a complete lack of staff attending to other non wedding guests and as such we were compelled to complain. The staff that were there did their very best given the situation they were in. However, it did not give me much confidence in the general management of the hotel."

Rooms very up to date and nicely decorated. Cosy not corporate.

Lots of flies/cobwebs around cottage windows. Back stairs to upstairs cottages could do with refurbishment.

Nothing - maybe the car park view but that didnt really matter.

    "Fantastic"

The lovely decor; the plasma screens in the room; the setting of the hotel

Only one thing - untrained breakfast waiting staff made the breakfast experience frustrating.

"I would recommend this hotel but check where you are staying, if in the main hotel overlooking the river - great, if your in the cottage don't bother."

First overall impression of the hotel very good

we were booked into the cottage very small we were on the ground floor, had to keep the blind down as everyone walked past. Hence very dark. Bathroom was like a shoe cupboard, it was a work of art to get to the toilet, trying to get inbetween the sink and the radiator, which if you got too close you burnt yourself. It was so small you had to undress in the bedroom to get into the shower - hence we had to keep the blind down - hence it was so dark. After showering went to blow dry my hair ! um no mirror, or there was but it was on the back of the entrance door, which didn't have a plug near it so couldn't see what i was doing, and of course with it being soo dark added to this problem. The resturant and bar were expensive, which I would not of minded paying if the accommodation was on the same par, which to us it was no way need good enough.
