"LOVED IT FOR ITS OLD STYLE CHARM BUT NEXT TIME WOULD REQUEST BETTER ROOM I typed all comments upper case 'cos of my poor eyesight why put the comment about this at the end after i've typed everything , such comment should be at front"

THE HOTEL OOZES CHARM AND A CERTAIN FADED ELEGANCE. THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY AND VALUE FOR MONEY BUT THERE WAS A SMELL OF COOKING PERVADING THE COMMON AREAS. THE LIBRARY AREA WAS AN OASIS OF CALM AND THE GENERAL RELAXED AMBIENCE AND HELPFULNESS OF STAFF MADE UP FOR THE SHORTCOMMING IN ROOM QUALITY

ROOM WAS DARK SMALL SINGLE IN BASEMENT, DOORS DID NOT CLOSE EASILY, TOILET FLUSH HANDLE FELL OFF, NO TOILET BRUSH. TELEVISION SHOULD BE ELEVATED FOR BETTER VISION, NO FREEVIEW AVAILABLE

"very disappointed, I had booked this hotel and the cricket game in headingly for my partner's birthday present and we could not stay over due to the state of the room."

did not stay at the hotel because the room was inhabitable, it was in the basement and smelt damp and mouldy. it looked like a very poor 1970s youth hostel, the rooms featured on the hotel website were not available even tho I had booked 8 months in advance! the hotel is totally misrepresentated on its web site.

"I had originaly booked for myself and my Husband but due to work committments he could not be with me. I was very disapointed by the quality and service received. I WAS OFFERED SOME COMPENSATION BUT THIS WAS TRUELY INADEQAUTE."

An attempt by the manager to appear helpful.

    |All rooms none smoking according to the information provided, however the room I was given smelled heavily of cigarettes. Moved to another smaller room at the top of the Hotel which was so hot it was unbareable. The stairs were very steep and I was not offered help with my very heavy luggage. I was very upset by the quality of the accommodation.

"Awful. The website and reality were two different things."

    I can't think of any.

greeting at reception poor. We were told we had to pay up front otherwise we could not have a key. My husband said that he had not seen this mentioned on the internet and handed her the print off, she could also not see it. Firstly,we were Sent to a room which stank of cigarette smoke and also had someone else's luggage in it. The second room we were sent to had a tiny window, tired decoration, a bathroom which was so outdated, and we also had to manouver round the lavatory to get to the basin and bath and we are both thin! At 4.30 am, a woman burst into our room and we had to ask her to leave. Needless to say, we got up and left as soon as we could!

"Overall comfortable and a pleasant experience"

Clean. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Adequate car parking. Comfortable rooms

Directions to hotel not too clear. Prices obviously raised because of test match cricket

    The breakfast was ok

The room was not clean, and it was like an oven, even with the radiators switched off, we had to leave the window open all night and the street noise kept us awake all night, we were booked in for two nights but we left after the first day. The bathroom was dangerous as when you walked on tiled floor the tiles lifted from the floor. we got one clean towel and one dirty one, and all of the towels and floor mat were fraying at the edges. This is the worse B&B we have ever stayed at and would not reccommed it to anyone.

"Good value overall though some criticisms."

    Braekfast fine.

Promised freeview on TV non-existent, exacerbated by card in drawer suggesting access to Sky Sports etc. Hot / cold taps on sink offered water at varying temperatures to the point that it was unclear which was which. Toilet flush exceedingly noisy in both mine and adjoining room; needs fixing...

"It seems alittle bit shabby in it's decoration. In need of a refurb. There was mould around the shower and there were no towels when I checked in, I had to ask for them and this was after I had washed so I had nothing but my handkerchief to dry my hands on. I was suprised to be charged an extra pound surcharge for using a credit card to pay."

Easy to find the hotel and near local facilities

No egg with my english breakfast

"Just about acceptable if there was no where else to go .Would liken it to a hostel or salvation army shelter for homeless people quality."

    The breakfast

The shower was appalling verging from scalding hot to cold no adjustments made any difference, you would get more spray from speaking to drunk with a bad lisp.Room and bathroom was very dated and tired as was the entire hotel needs complete refit. No tv guide with channels available in room.

"It was very disappointing. If I had known it was going to be so poor, I would never have booked it. The room had dampness on the wall, t.v didn't work properly, an unappetising smell came from the kitchen area in the morning, reception staff not very hepful or friendly. I asked for another room and was told there wasn't any, until the receptionist realised that I wasn't taking no for an answer."

. I ASKED I disliked being put in a room with dampness on the wall, the t.v wasn't working properly, the receptionist wasn't very friendly or helpful. I asked for another room, and was told there were no other rooms available, then all of a sudden a room appearad out of thin air, it may have been because I insisted to be moved. The shower was more like a trickle of water. I requested a smoking room but never got one.

It felt safe and was not overpriced. It was very near to the wedding that I was attending.

The room was dirty with cobwebs and dust around the top of the walls and the carpet in particular was disgusting. The bathroom was clean, however.
