A lovely hotel, excellent rooms, ideally situated. Very friendly and helpful staff.

"Lovely, quiet rooms with a beautiful view of the fountains of Brewery Wharf. Molten Brown Goodies and cosy bathrobes. Champagne and fresh milk in the fridge with home made biscuits replaced faster than we could eat them and we tried! Staff were attentive from the mulled wine on arrival to making dinner reservations at the many great restaurants nearby. Brasserie 44 and Chaophraya Thai highly recommended."

"I would have preferred a room overlooking the canal as opposed to a side street. I was puzzled by a sign in the bathroom saying the tap water is not suitable for drinking. In England in 2007?! I do think the buffet breakfast is overpriced. But the hotel is fine enough as hotels of this nature go."

    Excellent central location.

The room was cramped for a couple. Overlooking noisy street - particularly during night. Bathroom looks a little tired.

Very stylish although in need of a lot of love !!!

    Grubby,Tatty furniture,dirty carpets,hairs in bath etc,very dissapointing...

it had decent beds and linens. well proportioned room

Although valet parking i did get ticket as car came quicker than told . Hopefully they will be sorting out the ticket. No safe in room which I tend to like rather than taking all valuables around all the time.

"The hotel was excellent, from the moment we arrived to the moment we Left. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, there was a very relaxed atmosphere and is very peaceful, with nice views from the room windowsnot usually expected in a city hotel. The hotel was very clean and very comfortable with all the facilities needed available i especially liked the idea of the honesty bar, been able to help yourself rather than waiting for bar staff like being at home!.Breakfast was very relaxed with more than enough choice, and excellent quality-even a choice of sausages for the cooked breakfast.Checkout is at 11'o'clock so that gives plenty of time to pack and leave without rushing about, a relaxing end to a relaxing stay"

unusual rooms with lots of character and excellent modern facilities

could be improved by a surface in the bthroom close to the basin to unload your wash bag onto

"Little to add other than a general point that some refurbishment is needed soon."

We love the style of your hotel. The rooms are very well equipped. The cubby hole for breakfast and show cleaning is unique.

The room looked a little tired in places. There was a loose bath panel. The drinks fridge did not function.

    "Contained in the above comments."

Location excellent.Waterfront area really nice and excellent access to shops and restaurants. In room facilities very good especially the tv/dvd/internet set up. A good choice of films.Valet parking was excellent option too.

No dislikes-only two minor points. At check out the receptionsist was clearly tired -open yawning -not in keeping with the rest of the stay and the late night chocolates -smarties for a 'mature ' couple.

"Check- in was first rate, we had arrived at 12 and recepton checked if our room was ready which it was allowing my patner and myself to check in early normal check-in 15.00 . Over all we enjoyed our stay."

High standard of fittings eg flat screen TV and CD / DVD system. Clean and well presented.

A few minor points, the speakers did not work in the bathroom and the bath plug was not on the chain, but to be fair we did not report these faults. Still dissapointing in a 5 star hotel.

"I had not stayed there before but my wife has, and she was very happy to return. we had a room upgrade without requesting it and the veiws and service were excellent, as was the brasserie. It the best of the 4 or 5 similarly priced hotels in Leeds we have stayed at, and would be my first choice in future ."

How the original features of the building have been used to excellent effect

The weather was really hot and and the room was a little warmer than i would have liked. But that is a first in Leeds

"The hotel is well situated in a quiet location only a couple of minutes walk from the city centre. The decor is stylish with good service. The rooms are stylishly decorated, with quality furniture. Overall an excellent choice of hotel for a busy city."

Unusual in that the building was a converted warehouse, this added to the uniqueness of the hotel.

"We were really pleased to be upgraded as it was our wedding anniversary. We also to received a card and box of chocolates which was a nice touch. There were a few things that did not work in the room such as the speakers in the bathroom and one of the bedside lamps did not work but this did not affect the enjoyment of the break."

Character, views out across the river, generally the quietness of the location. Little touches that made the visit special.

Noise from groups of hen/stag parties returning to other hotels late at night.

"The journey to this hotel via the one way system in Leeds was a pain, and the map provided was not detailed enough, although very stylish. On arrival, the staff were an excellent combination of friendly yet efficient and were very helpful with car parking and luggage. The room itself was quirky and stylish - very classy! A great view and all possible mod cons so we were left with a feeling of being pampered yet private. The breakfast was amazing, both in terms of the surroundings of the river room and the food. Overall, would thoroughly reccommend this hotel to anyone who is prepared to pay a little extra for all those special touches that elevate a hotel from good to wonderful"

Quirky decor, nicely thought out. Lots of non essential features purely for aesthetics. Good quality toiletires, coffee, towels etc. Seemed someone had really thought through the look they wanted to achieve rather than facilities and furnishings being budget driven.

Had to remind housekeeping that our room had no milk or towels on our arrival, although this was dealt with immediately.

"We asked for a no-smoking room, but when people smoke outside, in the front of reception, the smoke came up to our room. The rooms facing the front should be re-classified to smoking as smokers would not have objected to this. I think the overall ambience/style of the hotel is very appealing - there are just small touches here and there that spoil it. The manager was very pleasant and efficient and made us feel welcome as we checked out - shame we hadn't been made to feel that when we checked in!"

Nice feel to the place - decent facilities in a modern/old setting

Receptionist made us feel as though we were interrupting her afternoon by checking in - she exuded no warmth whatever. Furthermore, the glass of wine at check-in, whilst a nice idea, was badly planned. The porter should have taken our glasses on a tray, or brought them up later - walking up with glasses in one hand and suitcase in the other was rather irritating. Sausages at breakfast - for a place making a big deal about its choice of sausages, they were not cooked! They were grey and soft rather than brown and hard.

"The breakfast was amazing, every attention to detail. Overall stay was fabulous. Can't believe you are not in the Mr and Mrs Smith book."

we liked the boutique feel of the hotel and even though it was a small hotel it was very impersonal which we like.

Can't say we disliked anything - clock didn't work in bathroom!

"The hotel is well positioned in the up and coming part of Leeds but, while restaurants and clubs are on its doorstep, it is very quiet. The rooms are tastefully decorated and provide all amenities for a businses or leisure stay. Service in the River Room is superb and the breakfast is the best I have come across. Staff are extremely accommodating and polite - and the free glass of wine after a 5 hour drive from London was most welcome!"

The environment and service were excellent. One of the best hotels in which I have stayed - and the breakfast cannot be beaten.

Would have preferred a public bar rather than a 'help-yourself' area

The hotel was clean, staff were extremely helpful and breakfast was superb.

Lack of a hotel bar, didn't like being stuck in the limted honesty bar area and lack of toilet roll in the room, also the toilet took forever to fill after flushing.

"over all hotel was v good. Comfortable beds and crisps cotton duvet covers with lovelly soft duvets. Lovely rooms and en suites. Great location. Parking a bit of a pain. had to find a parking spot with a park and display coupon. Valet parking was v steep at GPD 11-00! breakfast was v good quality and a bit different-lovley peaceful breakfast room. Would stay again. read a review on this website saying that hotelwas smelly with stale smoke. Nearly didnt book as a result of this but just watn to say this was NOT our experience. Rooms were v clean and fresh."

character of the building and individual stye of teh rooms. Locations v unique and quiet-in the city centre but on a river!

Room service food quality was not good. Some of the staff at desk seemed inexperienced and off hand

"42 The Calls is a beautiful small boutique hotel right in the city centre of Leeds, but in a quiet location by the river. Ask for a room with river view if possible. The rooms are comfortable and warm. The hotel does not serve dinner but there is a small room service menu, and there is a good buffet breakfast in the River Room."

Beautiful and sensitive conversion of an old riverside corn mill into a small and perfectly formed boutique hotel.

"Staff were very good and helpful, the hotel was small but very individual. Bed was very comfortable, didn't want to get up! Breakfast was lovely, never seen such a wide choice of sausages available! Only down side was that I could not find anything on the hotel website about the parking arrangments which were off site valet parking with a separate charge -I would have liked to have known this in advance."

Hotel was small and individual and the room, although small was unusual with a nice big bathroom.

Could have made more of a feature of the bathroom with a bigger bath or nice shower cubicle.

"Excellent location, excellent service, excellent attitude. Stay here!"

The location was great with a room backing onto the river. The service and attitude from the staff was faultless. Would definately recommend staying at this hotel.

The double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together which was a bit uncomfortable to sleep on, suddenly disappearing down the split in the middle! My tv also made a weird and slightly worrying electrical clicking/buzzing. Apart from that, nothing to complain about.

"The accommodation was unique - not the normal run of the mill corporate hotel. It had plenty of character and was small, friendly and well placed for visiting the city centre. Our room was of a good size and had above average facilities such as DVD/CD player, complementary tea and coffee and bathrobes. There was a lovely view of the river from the bedroom window. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful."
