    Central location.

Not all advertised facilities / equipment were available and of those that were there was a lack in communication of any relevant information.

    "Bad hotel"

    Central location in manchester

Heating constantly on, stupidly hot in the room couldn't sleep, pillows were worn thin with no covers, matress and sheets were wet, the only toilet on our floor was blocked. There was a sign on the front door when we arrived saying call back in 5 minuets, the guy that booked us in was rude and short with us.

    No good points at all

Booked a twin room got a double, only one towel for two of us. No mirrow, TV not working, black hair in the bed and shower. The shower was very low pressure.

    Good location

Room was disgusting! Tv didn't work.In desperate need of re decorating, wallpaper hanging off the walls & bed had stains on it. As a Business Manager for a travel company this will never get my recommendation!!!

    Breakfast was good. Ideal location.

Light in the toilet did not work. No toilet roll. No soap. Room smelt of smoke. Holes in sheets. Television did not work. Noisy outside above bar

"was really good - would stay there again - and the bar was nice too. safe location"

i really like the fact there was a iron in the room - different tv channels and hairdryer and the bed was so comfortable - and nice clean room

the only thing i wasn't keen on was the bathroom - the tile on the floor moved a bit - and it was a bit old fashioned - expected a bit more from the bathroom as the room itself was so nice

    "good value, questionable room security."

good value for money. £29 between 2 people when your just using th hotel as a base for a night out is good no matter what th rooms like. The sheets were clean an bed was comfortable that the most important thing!

the room was shabby but it didnt bother me. the only thing that bothered me was the room door had obviously been kicked in a few times an was not secure even when we locked it.

"Disgusting, unplesant, unhygenic, unwelcoming. I will read ALL reviews next time before booking, I'm taking no chances. Wouldn't choose to stay in Manchester again anyway."

We were close to the Piccadilly station, City Centre and a taxi ride away from the Appollo

Loo roll only available on request Smoke detector in room covered with a carrier bag Loud noises heard all night Too warm - radiators on full all night - unbarable Breakfast was late, unorganised and little choice Plug sockets did not work - so TV, kettle and my phone charger didn't work No towels so couldn't shower - plug sockets didn't work so straighteners and hairdryer didn't work anyway Hotel was down a back alley - unpleasant Dirty room Broken door in en-suite so had to go to the loo with door open No soap to wash hands

"I did not have great expectations as this was a cheap hotel, but it was rather seedy.Situated up a narrow backstreet with a grubby entrance and few operational lightbulbs.I requested 2 extra bed pillowsonly 2 provided for double roomfrom 2 different people and they still did not appear. Had to chase staff for milk at breakfast time. There was no one available in the breakfast room so had to go to reception.Shortage of bread and fruitjuice.I asked advice about local restaurants and bus routes but staff unable to oblige.I was just pointed to some leaflets which apprently someone had 'dropped off'.In my view the Merchants Hotel is run on a shoestring and it shows. On the whole an experience I would not repeat cheap or otherwise!"

cheap and breakfast room was fine tidy clean with new looking chairs, clean tablecloths.good range of cereals, tea and coffee.Provision of kettle/tea and coffee in bedroom.2 clean towels, bedding sparse but clean.

room too hot could't open window more than a couple of inches.Bathroom horrible whole ceiling with peeling paint hanging off.Corner of bedroom had water damage and peeling paint.flooring in bathroom cheap and badly fitted.Shower mouldy.

"OK - pretty good for city centre & fairly quiet - but then I always take ear plugs."

I think this hotel is good value for money in the very centre of Manchester - within walking distance of the railway station & car parks.

It would be nice to have a shower room - even if shared - & more toilet paper

There were none !! The Hotel was a discrace! I booked in for 3 nights which I had to pay for in advance and checked out after only one night. I am at the loss of the other two nights accommodation which I had paid for and would like to have this returned. There was nobody in authority on the morning I checked out to deal with over the matter and I left my phone number for the manager to call but have still heard nothing !!

Paint falling off the ceiling. Room untidy. Room noisy. Generally not very clean. Expensive based on poor standard. Bathroom shower not clean and water far too hot and not able to reduce temperature

"Staff polite but very unhelpful, maybe not their fault. Reporting faults were excepted so matter of fact as though they new nothing would be done. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel. No excuses for the filth under the beds and along the pipework !!"

Rooms very very unclean, Bed Broken, Rat Poison in room. TV reception poor. No Curtains apparently stolen expected to put up with it. Wall paper ripped and splinters of wood exposed. what on earth were those stains in the carpet?

Great location, given key to outer door so no waiting around for a nightporter to open the door late at night, friendly polite receptionist.

Loud music from nearby bar, but you expect that in a city centre hotel, didn't stop me sleeping!

"Distinctly average - or maybe not even that good. Too much money for not enough quality."

Carpets were quite dirty in places, tap not fixed properly to the sink in my room, shower door didn't close properly, TV aerial wire trailing across the room, poor TV reception, no cooked breakfast available, breakfast starts too late - 9.15am at weekends and 8.30 am weekdays.

"Excellent positiion for the first time traveller. Everything was to hand did not have to worry about getting about. Was a delight, the staff were very accommodating, the service was excellent together with the choice of breakfast, from continental to full breakfast. Good value. The positioning of the hotel to the area was spot on, so near for the railwaystation, the metro, the free buses. Virtually opposite Piccadily Gardens themselves, which was a delight to sit and watch the world go by. To sum up a fantastic part of the weekend was to know that you had a good hotel to go back to. Would not hesitate to book again and hopefully will be coming back very soon."

Excellent positiion for the first time traveller. Everything was to hand did not have to worry about getting about. So near to the train station just a quick walk upto the hotel with no bother at all. Excellent breakfast facilities.

well situated nice lounge. very friendly young man made the check in and repaired everything that did not work in the room the lady we saw the next days did not even smile.

on week-ends very noisy poor breakfast rooms need refreshment. cleaning personal did not look after the room during our stay. cleaning personal should look regularly under the bed.

    The breakfast was adequate.

The quality of cleanliness in rooms was bellow stantard. Beds were unconfortable. Broken items in the room picture frame and could be dangerous for anyone. Rooms in need of urgent redecoration wall paper falling off in place, faded colour, outdated furniture... The rapport of staff with customer lacked total professionalism abruptness, lack of courtesy...

"great location. room was fine, dont expect a 5* room for £48. great for a single night stay and for MEN and city centre - we where there watching pink at the men which is a 5 min walk away. the hotel is just off the main street, by debenhams. there is a car park in tib street, which is the closest. it's £13 for upto 12-24 hours. the tib strret car park is 10 meters down the road and around one corner. there is also a multi storey just next to the tib strret car park. room perfectly fine, could do with a bit of a repain perhaps but not dowdy, perfectly fine."

cheap, good location. - it's not really down an alley as one review says, it's just behind the main street by the debenhams.
