Hotel makes lots of noises at night. Bar across the street was noisey when it closed. Staff was to take care of my rental car but failed.

"Hotel has a lot going for it but was let down by failure of some facilities and the off-putting attitude of some staff."

    Excellent location

Lack of hot water for washing. Staff obviously haven't been told about Geordie Friendliness!

"Spolied by the reception staff breakfast staff were fine and an extremely hot room with no ventilation or fan."

Good location, right next to station and taxis, both of which I use a lot

Receptionists were completely unsmiling and sullen, no 'hello'or 'thank you' or 'goodbye' on departure. They also had the habit of not looking at guests when they spoke. Room was VERY hot and airless

    "Generally fulfilled requirements. Good location."

    Staff helpful. Accessability good.

Worn carpets on stairs. Impossible to ventilate room- windows painted shut. Appalling deppessing piped muisc in the dining room. Staff in the dining room/bar seemed a little unfamiliar with accepted protocol- eg that a cup of coffee usually comes with a saucer, and that a full bottle of beer needs a pint glass.

    "Very nice, would stay again."

The hotel looked very nice, the reception and staircase areas made it appear a higher standard of hotel than 3 stars. The Leisure centre was also very nice. We arrived at 10:30 am and were allowed to check into our room then even though our confirmation said check in wasnt until 14:00.

The room was a bit small. I booked a superior room but am unsure exactly what was superior about it.

rooms were nicely decorated and clean, mini bar although sparse was complimentary. Free wi-fi was good

For the cost for a one night stay would have expected breakfast to be included in the price

Shame the leisure centre will not be open on a sunday in future, but wont deter us.

"A splendid Victorian hotel which has been presented in a modern way to make the most of space and character. Friendly and efficient service. Conveniently located next to the train station, and although this can mean some noise overnight it didn't bother me. But leave the car at home unless you are prepared to pay quite a large fee for your parking."

Nicely presented. Room was large, well equipped and clean, with a lovely bathroom. Staff were helpful and efficient. Breakfast was nice - I didn't have any other meals, but the room service menu was varied and looked like good value.

Parking was very limited; despite advertising that it was free, there are actually only a few free spaces, and if these are taken you have to park on the station car park, for a fee of £12. I felt that this had been missold. I was also a little cold overnight - but I did go in the middle of a particularly cold spell snow!.

"A good hotel conveniently located. I would definitely recommend this hotel."

Very handy for the city centre and also right next door to the train station.

It is a bit noisy at night but only what you would expect from a hotel right in the centre of the city.

"Like the building's outlook appearance and its location a lot, the hotel has a lot of potential for enhancement. "

Very nice building, very convenient and close to the train/Metro/bus station. Hospitable in providing complimentary drinks in the fridge and using the gym facility. Cleaning staff friendly and helpful.

Some rooms have no external windows, others facing the main street need double-glazed windows very noisy esp. after 11pm when people line up at the bars/pubs on main streets. Carpets in common area need refurbishment.

"Fully satisfied, use the hotel frequently and will continue to do so"

Good central location, leisure facilities, extensive room service selection with very good available times. Friendly staff. Quiet corradors so one is not frequently disturbed

Poor lifts, one I feel is a service lift. Inclusive car parking facilities although the Railway carprk is on the door it is expensive to stay 24 hours.

The hotel appeared tired and in need of refurbishment. It appeared that I could have got a lower rate if I had booked by telephone with the hotel
