"Would only stay again if given a much quieter room"
Very Clean, Excellent Staff, Good breakfast
Very noisy at night from bar area, had to sleep with windows shut which kept room very hot no air conditioning

"Would have given a fair rating but problem with bathroom means I'd give an adequate rating."
Staff very friendly and food very good.
Noise from Bar below very loud till midnight. Problem with bathroom. Water going down sink caused stinky water to flow up shower drain pipe.

"Disappointed"
Breakfast was good, the staff were very attentive.
Manager not very helpful as i hadn't booked via the hotel. Having a room above the bars that were open until 1am where they have outside smoking areas. No air con, so windows were open, very noisy! Bathroom extremely poor, we had sick in the plughole, you had to lean over the bath taps to get wet from the shower which had lots of black mould in.

"Ideal hotel for younger clubbers. Disappointing rooms, they need updating or something. Nicer pillows would be good too. The lift didn't work."
If you want to club until early hours then this is the hotel for you. My boyfriend and I had to swop rooms because all we heard was the thud of music from the hotels bars.
We did not like much really. It was quite poor for the price.

The room could do with some refurbishment especialy the bathroom

"Having stayed at the Royal Exeter in previous years, we knew more or less what to expect. However, the newly refurbished dining room was a joy. The food was excellent and the staff efficient and friendly. Spoil yourself and go for the chocolate brownie with vanilla cream!Nothing was too much trouble. We will book again for next year, when hopefully, the rooms will have been refurbished."
Excellent dining. Proximity to event we were visiting, cleanliness of the hotel, friendliness and efficiency of the staff.
The rooms are getting very jaded. The bathrooms particularly are very old-fashioned and very basic.

Lovely hotel - much better than some of the other, more expensive hotels I've used in the area. Very smart & trendy.

"If you are going to see a show at the BIC then I recommend staying at the Royal Exeter Hotel. You are right outside the venue and almost directly in the town centre. You may be worried about noise at night but I didn't find this a problem. Friendly staff and an overall pleasent stay."

"I chose this hotel because it beat a competitor by "
Centrally situated, large room with comfortable bed and ironing board available.
The decor was a little tired in places - I would have appreciated something celebrating the coastal location.

The central position
The room was very stuffy. We struggled to open the casement window whilst we were in the room, but did not feel that it would be safe to leave it open overnight or whilst we were out of the room due to the flat roof outside.

"All the staff I dealt with, both at reception & in the breakfast room, were friendly & efficient. The room was spacious & clean, as was the en-suite bathroom. Plenty of storage space was provided & the bed was comfortable. The breakfast menu offered a wide selection & was to a high standard. All in all the hotel was great value for money, especially considering the small rooms you'd get for the same price in London. It's also literally across the road from the BIC, so ideal if you're going to a show there, and just minutes from the beach & parks. Highly recommended!"
Friendly staff. Comfortable, spacious room. Wide choice of options for breakfast. Ideal for the BIC.
Not a huge bugbear, but you could hear a little noise from the corridor & neighbouring room.

Great Service, Great Atmosphere and Great Food!!!
Unfortunate that it doesn't have indoor swimmingpool.

"Overall very happy with my stay. Breakfast was lovely, staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Its very central location and private parking made this hotel very attractive to me. Though on the downside I did find being centrally located did mean that it was rather noisy outside until late with Bournemouth's Saturday night revellers. This was probably not helped by the presence of two trendy bars at the hotel."
Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast yummy and staff friendly.
Minor gripes were that it took a while for the water in the room to run hot and the shower was not very powerful.

Very good breakfast !!
Bathrooms could do with some modernisation.

"On arrival i was checked in promptly and my room was pleasantly furnishes and of a good size. Perhaps this was because I had requested one of the Classic Rooms as advised by a friend who had also stayed at the hotel recently. A few of my friends who were staying at the hotel at the same time as myself did not have such good rooms and were a bit disappointed. Breakfast was very good with a good range of choices and I was attended to in a friendly and courteous manner. The bar area was much improved from the first time I stayed at the hotel 3 years ago. Much more modern and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. Perfectly located hotel for shopping, restaurants, bars, clubs and the B.I.C. is directly across the road. Outside patio area off main bar would be ideal on summer evenings. Good hotel and would definately stay there again."
location. Convenient to shops restaurants etc. Room of good size for single occupation.
all aspects were of acceptable level. If i wanted to be picky, the shower in the bathroom wasnt great, and i hate shower curtains- prefer glass doors.

"we enjoyed the 1812 cocktail bar. the breakfast was faultless. We already hope tom have an excuse to stay again soon."
THe room was excellent very clean and comfortable, everything we had hoped for. We will definately be staying here again.

"On our arrival the car park was full but the duty manager gave up his parking space for us. the room was lovley, and although we had booked a soking room one call to reception and someone brought us up an ashtray. the bathroom was very dated but it all worked. the room was very hot and we could have done with being able to open a window. the staff where fantatic and didnt laugh too much as we fell through the door and up the stairs on our way to bed. breakfast was also very nice and the waiter impressed us so much we tipped him well"
the bedroom was fab, could have done with being able to open a window as it was very hot.
The bathroom was very dated but evrything worked

"Our reservation had not taken into account the request for a smoking room, but we were moved within 5 minutes of raising the matter. It was in easy walking distance from the town centre and the sea and only 5 minutes cab ride from the station. Ideal for those visiting the B.I.C which is only across the road. Nightime noise levels were non-intrusive. The 1812 served the best cocktails I've ever had. The staff were always very cheerful and helpful. We are already planning to use them for a future event."
The hotel was very comfortable, the facilities excellent.

"Welcomed by a friendly receptionist room good size for a single radiator controllable so heating adequate. Hotel corridors a little tatty. Plenty of choice at breakfast both cooked and continental style. Nice to see a selection of dried fruits on offer. Good choice on cooked menu too. Right opposite the B.I.C which is handy and a stones through from the beach. Would stay again."
Spacious room with single bed

"This was the worst hotel stay ever endured by us, On returning to the hotel after seeing a show at the pavillion we were unable to get near either of the two bars due to a nightclub enviroment and a mass of public trade, surely paying residents get priority of at least one of the bars. We did eat in your 1812 restaurant but conversation was not easy due to the very loud music from the bar. Then to top it all off , when we did find a seat in the bar after our meal we were ordered to DRINK UP and leave by a tired looking doorman. To sum up, It was a weekend away ruined by lack of thought for your residents."
The bar and restaurant facilities are obviously aimed at passing trade and not for the residents.

"good location, friendly and helpful staff. we had an attic room which was a bit on the small side but still adequate for our one night stay."
central location, good standard of accomodation
nothing really, enjoyable stay

"A very enjoyable stay at this Hotel - excellant location with car parking and directly opposite the BIC and minutes from the beach. Refurbished public areas are stunning. Bedrooms could be updated in decor but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Did not use the restaurant but the breakfast staff and quality of breakfast was superb. I was visiting on business but would definately return for leisure purposes."
Pretty much everything - the location, parking, appearance etc.
No dislikes - but air conditioning in the bedrooms would be a fantastic addition.

"We were concerned when we arrived to discover that there was a bar attached to either side of the hotel, we thought that this could be noisy in the room, but our concerns were unfounded we heard no noise at all. Had we known this in advance it might have clouded our thoughts on staying there. This hotel is in a very central position one of the reasons why we chose it."
The hotel was very clean, accomodation adequate, continental breakfast in the room was good, food fresh, drinks hot, service good.
A little more thought could go into the decoration, this was no more than adequate, but very clean.

Excellent staff, particularly the head waiter serving breakfast in the morning - very friendly and efficient and we were given the impression nothing was too much trouble. The food itself was first class with plenty to choose from. Room was big, well decorated and clean. Excellent location.
