"Lovely to be in Edinburgh and the hotel was fine, and CN House Hotel is a fine building let down by overly dark and gold decor, some cramped rooms on the top floor and fussy detailing. Whereas, really important details, such as the Georgian window's sash runners in my room badly needed attention. 2 dozen cushions are no substitute for getting ventilation and size right. Some equipment, such as Jacuzzi and a plasma screen TV covering an entire wall, is OTT and somewhat passe."
Good staff Laid back atmosphere Position in New Town
Decor out of keeping with Adam house Wi-Fi hopeless above the first floor My room was cramped and stuffy.

"These apartments are great but they need to be maintained to the same standard as the hotel room. I have not stayed in one of your hotel rooms but I suspect the cleanliness will be good. This is the standard for the apartments. The cleaners arrived late and appeared rushed. Maybe more cleaners required on the apartments."
Great apartment on Royal Mile. Excellent position to explore the Old Town. Heating good.Fixtures and fittings generally good.
The cleaning was poor, sitting room not hoovered crumbs on floor, microwave dirty, fridge dirty, no dishwasher tablets or hand/tea/oven gloves towels, pots and pans appalling. No teapot. All kitchen draws filthy.

"The apartment was a bit cut off and while reviewing the details I got the sense that it would be part of a serviced building; only to discover it was a single apartment. No lifts or concierge so had to carry our luggage up two flights, even though we w ere told it's on the first floor! Visitorwise it was great."

"We arrived early and the hotel staff were very helpful and allowed us to store our bags until check-in time, giving us directions into town and information about where to eat, shop and visit. When it came to check-in time, they started to escort us to a hotel annex next door, but when we complained they sorted out a room in the hotel quickly and gave us coffee while we waited. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit."
The decor was very nice and the room was well serviced. The room had a massive flat screen TV with freeview and a DVD player.
We had a room with twin beds but they did not butt up against the wall so the pillows disappeared down the back of the bed and it was difficult to sit up in bed to read or watch TV. The room was very hot, even after turning the radiator off. There was no lift, but the staff did offer to carry our bags up and down the stairs, which was appreciated.

The decor in places was a little rich for my taste.

"Hotel in great location. We stayed in the Scott Suite which has private access to the rear garden. The room is huge for two and could easilly handle a family with 2 children. One minor complaint is faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room. Staff more than helpful and very pleasant."

"The staff within the hotel made our stay very pleasant. They were friendly and helpful at all times and very professional. The hotel is well placed for access to Edinburgh city centre but is also far enough away not to be disturbed by the city noises should you want a quiet night. It was clean and very well presented and had a homely feel about it often lost in big city hotels. It is certainly somewhere we would stay again and we have in fact already planned our next visit."
Staff were excellent, very professional and always friendly. Room was spacious and well presented, very clean Area has many close by amenities, including bars and restaurants. The views of Edinburgh from the rooms are amazing
There were no elements of the hotel that I disliked. The one thing to mention would be that there are no lifts within the hotel and therefore if you have issues with stairs then it would be worth ensuring you obtain a room on the ground or first floor. I would add though for people who are happy to walk up a couple of flights of stairs the lack of lifts does not pose any issue.

For a supposedly standard room it was extremely small. This being the case would have hated to have booked a small room.

"Warm and welcoming reception from staff. From arrival to departure every need was catered for by friendly attentive staff. It was an oasis of tranquility which allowed one to begin each day refreshed. The full Scottish breakfast was delicious and well-presented, but the stewed coffee disappointed."
The comfort and luxury of the furniture and furnishings. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at all levels, nothing was too much trouble.

"Your online booking system says you cannot guarantee a non-smoking room. I almost didn't book because I couldn't be guaranteed a non-smoking room. However, when I rang to ask about this, your receptionist told me it is a non-smoking hotel! That said, we really liked the hotel very much indeed."
It was generally nice although I think there could have been more storage space for clothes... especially drawer space.
I don't like the fact that the towel rails are placed right by the toilet. I aoso think you should take up the option of not having towels replaced every day as some hotel chains do. People are becoming more environmentally aware of this type of thing.

"The Christopher North House Hotel is a small, hotel which has the advantage of being relatively secluded but is still only a short walk from the centre of Edinburgh. It is elegantly furnished and decorated and the staff were welcoming and always very pleasant. Our room was cleaned efficiently and we have nothing but the highest commendation for the general standards within the hotel. Breakfast is a problem because the dining room is small but the staff try to deal with this as efficiently as possible and although we had some minor problems in getting exactly what we had ordered, these were always corrected on request."

"I should have paid attention to the lack of lift, but with the staff assistance, the stairs weren't much of a problem. The staff was very accommodating, the rooms luxurious, if a bit small, and the main rooms were very nice as well. We had to leave early for the airport, so missed breakfast, but it looked lovely."

"Whilst reading about the hotel I would have liked to have known that room service is not available in the hotel, or even the option to have breakfast in your room - which is something we do like to take advantage of on occasion. It would also be good to be told that parking is on street and is metered, although weekend parking is free. We did enjoy our stay, and the hotel has a good location for the shops as long as you don't mind a strenuous walk. Was easy to find with some direction. Good sized room for a short stay. The heating was very hot most of the time. Another thing that may be worth mentioning is that there appears to be no lift to the other floors for people who may need one."
Decor was fabulous, room was a good size, room & bathroom very clean, close enough to walk into Edinburgh, staff helpful when they could be found, breakfast was really good. Restaurant menu looked fabulous, however we were unable to try this as it was closed due to a staff shortage!!? Very, very disappointed to be told this upon arrival.
Room service - even a small, select menu would be good. Or the option to have breakfast in your room would be a really good change to make. Cleaning staff left huge piles of bedding etc all along the hall ways and the staircase that you had to negotiate to get in or out. Only one toilet in the communal areas and this was used by staff as a changing room, which meant a long wait to use the facility. Just seemed very disorganised upon arrival and in general and I was a little disappointed at the value for money. We're not averse to spending between £100-£200 a night for a hotel for a treat, which this was, and although it was nice just didn't seem worth the £220.

"The hotel is a short walk from the main part of town, quite a hike for the less able as uphill. The hotel itself was excellent, small but really welcoming. All the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Should I stay in Edinburgh again, I would not hesitate in booking the Cristopher North, Highly recommended!"

"This was a surprise present from my mother and father for my 26th birthday. So can't comment."
The furnishings were luxurious and rich and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The atmosphere of the hotel was very rich and opulent but with very friendly and helpful staff.
Our room, specifically, had a rather large kitchen unit. Although this was a fabulous idea, it was not thought through in practical terms. i.e. I was very disappointed after rummaging through lots of cupboards to find not much to it other then empty storage space. To make guests feel more welcome, I feel the kitchen could have had more utensils e.g. plates, cutlery, pans etc to make guests feel more at home. Visitorwise, there was not much point in having half of one of the rooms taken up with a big amount of kitchen space.
