"Overall not too bad, would rate this hotel as average against the large number of hotels that I stay at for business. Nothing stands out to prevent me going back."

    Centrally located.

A bit tired looking. Common areas much better kept than rooms, which were in need of a bit of TLC. Old CRT TV, ironing board grubby. Bahroom dated.

"I have stayed at the Copthorne via work previosly and attended a seminar at the Copthorne Newcastle on wednesday 12/08/09 via St James's Place and was happy with the overall service, However, booking for our 10th Wedding Anniversary was a big disappointment and the hotel experience took a shine off our day."

    Staff were very friendly

Checking in - had to ask for the complimentary drnk voucher as part of the internet offer which I then never used because of the cue at the bar. Bathroom looked in need of repair with black showing at the side of the bath.Only two staff on the bar when there was a wedding on which made very long cueing time. Breakfast - at 9am on Saturday what choice was left was dry or soaked in fat because it had been standing a long time. Checking out - had to wait until a member of staff appeared before being seen too.

"Perfect location - we were going to the Metro Arena - stunning walk back alon the river. Fabulous parking facilities. Very helpful staff. Not exactly over priced, but poor value for money in the room - i would stay again, but would use it as a functional base - not somewhere for a nice weekend away."

The lobby, bar and reception areas were clean, modern and bustling in the right way - the staff eager to please, appeared to enjoy their job and were incredibly pleasant and helpful.

The room was in real need of some tlc - cracked paint, grotty grouting, and our sheets were stained with blood we didnt notice until the morning as the lighting wasn't great at night time. The quality of the room in no way measured u to the quality of the downstairs

    "Very nice"

The cleanliness of the hotel was marred by the xmas party that was in the hotel. I was shocked to see the mess they had made of the ladies toilets. My friend said the mens was the same. I do not hold the hotel responsible for this though and i felt sorry for the cleaner having to sort it all out.

"I like the hotel and would wish to go back. I've used it several times now but note my comments about cost."

Excellent location. Good sized room Staff were very friendly and well trained.

Its not cheap. Breakfast is additional cost and they now charge extra for the car park - a new policy introduced this year. As a leisure traveller it makes you think if its not now overpricing itself.

"As we were a hen party we were concerned we may have been treated differently but we were made very welcome. All nine of us were happy with our accommodation."

Our rooms were all overlooking the river and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was a great place to meet up before going out in the evening.

one of us had a camp bed which was extremely uncomfortable and collapsed regularly!! The hotel pool was in need of an overhall - not very clean looking and very hard to find!

"If those little problems were sorted it would be OK - except that why, O why, do those of us travelling alone pay the same room rate but get a smaller room???"

All the staff I met staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. The situation of the hotel is excellent.

I had to fix the toilet flush twice as the handle kept falling off. The bath took 20 minutes to fill despite a notice saying beware - it would fill in 90 seconds!due to the cold tap running at a mere trickle. The bedside light was attached to a broken out of date 'round' three pin socket which was broken. I therefore had to move the desk lamp to act as a bedside lamp.

The rooms where spacious and clean, bed was really comfy and had a great view.

The rooms Could be done with being updated but still nice in its own way. Drinks and food were really expensive in the bar but was nice aatmosphere.

"We requested an early entry into a room to get changed for a wedding. We had to change in cramped wet filthy conditions in the leisure facility and were not offered a room to go to despite being there from 9.45am. The hotel is sad and needs a facelift and new management"

    The view

The bed. The appalling state of the public toilets and leisure facility. The appalling service from the staff. There was no toilet paper in the mens toilets at all.

"Having stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions, this was as expected- good quality service, good rooms at the right temperature! and courteous staff. Will definitely be staying again."

The rroms are very well laid out, particularly the ones overlooking the quay. Beds are extremely comfortable, giving the usually much needed good night's sleep!

The bath! Wanting a good soak after a day's driving, I felt like I was sat on a shelf, rather than sinking into a hot bath. I appreciate this may be connected to water conservation/keeping costs down, but a little deeper would be good!

"The website for the hotel is poor. It says nothing of the amenities the hotel has to offer. Under activities it says 'Jacuzzi' - surely you can do better than that....but the hotel is excellent."

Excellent room, but the bathroom was a little old and tired

Great idea to have breakfast in that way, executive lounge

The room was lovely, very comfortable and clean.

The bathroom could have done with more lighting over the bath/shower.

"Hotel very nice, some issues to resolve. Will return if these can be dealt with."

i thought the hotel was extremely clean and the staff were very polite. In particular, the reception staff were very professional and most courteous.

There were two things that irritated me as both were easily avoidable. 1 The lunch / bar area was very badly staffed, resulting in a number of mistakes being made with customer orders etc, resulting in an air of disorganisation, which was most apparent to guests. Suggestion: someone needs to be waiting on tables and walking the floor with no responsibility for what's going on behind the bar. 2 The TV was not tuned in correctly ie the channel set up detailed in the welcome pack did not correspond to the channels that were actually available on the TV eg BBC news 24 on 2 channels etc. There was no means of manually tuning in the TV.

"The position is good, view from the room splendid, pleasant and helpful staff, convenient parking, sheets etc fine. Decor was rather tired - definitely 1980s - and furniture in need of a makeover. Thw windows were really dirty and a dirty shelf obscured what was a lovely view from window"

    The view, the Connoisseur Suite

The decor was rather tired - very 1980s The windows were filthy
